Insurance law

Insurance in Cameroon is governed by the CIMA Code, the single insurance code of the fourteen member States of the Inter-African Conference on Insurance Markets. It regulates the contract, the insurer and the settlement of claims.

Our work includes

  • Drafting and reviewing policies and endorsements for compliance with the CIMA Code
  • Coverage opinions, and disputes over exclusions, warranties and nondisclosure
  • Claims handling and disputes over the amount of loss, for insurers and for policyholders
  • Subrogated recovery actions
  • Auto liability and compensation for bodily injury under the Code's schedules
  • Marine cargo and hull claims
  • Construction and professional liability claims
  • Life insurance, beneficiary disputes and payment on death
  • Regulatory matters before the national supervisory authority and the CIMA Regional Commission

Cyber risk

The insurability of cyber risk within the CIMA zone is an open question, on which the firm has published. See L'assurabilite des cyber-risques en zone CIMA, Revue semestrielle de droit africain compare des affaires, 2025-1, no. 22.
