Monogamous and polygamous marriage
Cameroonian law permits a marriage to be celebrated as monogamous or as polygamous, and the choice made at the ceremony governs the inheritance and property consequences for the rest of the marriage. The choice is frequently made without legal advice and is difficult to change afterward. Its effects should be understood before the ceremony rather than at the point of divorce or death.
